SALA is an association for and by Swiss and American lawyers who have regular contacts with Switzerland, through Swiss clients or employers or as a place of business or jurisdiction, and who practice in the greater New York area, in a law firm, in-house, at an international organization or with a diplomatic representation. SALA also invites academics or students at law schools in the New York area to join. SALA gives its members and supporters a forum for exchanges of ideas regarding Swiss, US, and international law and policies affecting Swiss and American lawyers, their clients or their organizations and provides opportunities for collegial interaction and networking. Become a SALA Member or Supporter!
SALA is a not for profit corporation under New York law. Full membership is open to lawyers, at annual membership dues that are currently set at an affordable $50.00. Non-lawyers or law students visiting New York for a limited period of time may join as supporting members for an even more affordable annual membership fee of $25. All membership classes enjoy reduced admission fees to our events. SALA Events
We currently organize quarterly events featuring speakers, including legal scholars or practitioners active in various areas of law, politics or international relations. We strive to address cutting edge legal and political issues and developments that are relevant to a Swiss and American legal audience and to invite interesting and entertaining speakers to our events. Active participation of members who wish to present current issues from their own practice or invite other speakers is always welcome. Past events have included presentations on the human rights of internally displaced persons (with Prof. Walter Kaelin of the University of Bern), on the current legal, economic and cultural Swiss-American relations (with Ambassador Christoph Bubb, Consul General of Switzerland in New York) and the international regulation of private military companies (with Emmanuel Bichet, Legal Adviser to the Swiss Mission to the United Nations). We also host an annual holiday dinner and intend to organize future social events, such as after work cocktail parties and other kinds of informal get together.
